In celebration of 50 remarkable years of following the exploits of MI6 operative, 007, The Royal Mint proudly presents The 007 Collection. The second coin in the 3-coin series brings into focus the ground-breaking technology that has been integral to the 007 Bond franchise from the beginning. The oft-heard interjection, “Pay Attention” was made famous by “Q” the genius gadget inventor, in his attempts at getting Bond’s focus. This 2020 Britain James Bond R2 (Pay Attention) 1oz Gold Proof coin is being introduced in conjunction with the 25th 007 movie release, “No Time To Die” and it is a stunning beauty!
As a legal tender offering by Great Britain, the obverse displays the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Inscriptions include “ELIZABETH II D. G. REG. F. D. 2020” and the 100 pounds face value.
Featured on the reverse of this 2020 Britain James Bond R2 (Pay Attention) 1oz Gold Proof coin, the second of three releases in The 007 Collection is the remarkable “Wet Nellie.” The Wet Nellie, introduced in the 1977 Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me was the custom-designed submarine car, styled as a Lotus Esprit S1 sports car. And, my was it ever a fine ride!
The coin’s design displays a stylistic representation of Wet Nellie, navigating submerged at an angle. The inscription at the bottom include “PAY ATTENTION 007” and the two designer’s initials. Transposed over Wet Nellie are two large numerals “07.” Each of the three coin designs to be released are intended to be displayed side-by-side in order to reveal an iconic motif. Each will also display a famous phrase of the movie franchise that relates to the featured image of the coin.
As noted by the mint, “A three-coin series explores the gadgets, luxurious lifestyle and iconic imagery that have appeared in the films, and the Inspired Innovation editions each feature state-of-the-art micro-text containing a hidden message for Bond fans to crack.”
